Greetings Western Region Graduate Students!
Your regional representatives this year, Rowena Campbell and Tarryn McGhie, proudly represent graduate and professional scholars in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Our goal is to increase the number of NBGSA affiliates in the western region of the United States as well as coordinate a scholarly and interactive Western Regional conference. Together with your help we will “Bring the Black Back to the West.”
Abut Rowena

Rowena Campbell is a fourth year Doctoral candidate in the Medical Pharmacology program at the University of Arizona. Her research focus involves the mechanism of Alternaria-induced allergic inflammation. She has not only excelled academically but her involvement in the Tucson community has kept her motivated and always willing to take on new challenges. She is currently the president of Sisters of Unity, an organization for black women in the Tucson Community. Rowena also sits on the executive board of the local Black Graduate Students Association chapter at the University of Arizona as Public Relations Chair. She has been involved with the Arizona Women’s Conference as member of the Promotional committee and she is also currently serving on the African American Student Affairs Advisory board.
About Tarryn

Tarryn McGhie is finishing his Masters in Educational Psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Tarryn received his B.A. from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University which is where he began his current research interests on the effects of “Stereotype Threat” and the role of “Racial Identity” in the lives of Black Americans. Tarryn has also worked closely with several organizations that promote the well being of Black Americans, they include the Association of Black Psychologists, National Association of Black Journalists, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Tarryn has also done volunteer work as a coach in the American Athletic Union, Youth Basketball Organization of American and the YMCA. In the fall, Tarryn will be a candidate for a dual Doctoral Program in Psychology and Law. Tarryn is the Black History Chair of the Black Graduate Student Association-UNLV chapter and undoubtedly he played a role in winning Affiliate of the Year honors at the 20th Annual NBGSA conference.
