Antonio White, Northeast Regional Representative nerep01@nbgsa.org

Antonio White is currently pursuing his Master of Arts in African American Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD.  A Cleveland, OH native, Antonio earned his B.A. in Black World Studies with a minor in Sociology at Miami University in Oxford, OH.  During his undergraduate career, Antonio worked in the Office of Diversity Affairs where he helped to plan several student affairs initiatives including Miami’s multicultural first-year student orientation (Pre-FYI).  In addition, Antonio served as an executive leader in several student organizations and worked continuously with the Office of Student Affairs to enhance the quality of campus life.  In March of 2008, Antonio traveled to South Africa with his senior capstone course after studying the country’s experiences and history.  His first abroad experience, South Africa left an indelible impression on Antonio and unequivocally enhanced his perspective as a growing scholar and professional.

Antonio’s research interests include American multicultural experiences with education; race, class and gendered identities; and theoretical work on the Black Diaspora.  In addition, he has interests in film and media, the arts, and humanitarianism.  A committed scholar, Antonio plans to pursue his doctorate degree with hopes of a career tract where he is able to engage both his research interests and passions.

Engaged and empowered from the 2009 conference, some of Antonio’s goals for the region include assisting the NBGSA in building a community of scholars within the black academy and helping to foster a hub from which new knowledge, ideas, networks and resources can emerge.  He also intends to assist the NBGSA in building membership in our region while also bridging the gap between black professional and graduate students.  Antonio is proud to serve as the 2009-2010 Northeast Regional Representative and looks forward to connecting with the region’s brightest and brilliant minds.
