Faculty Member, Administrator, Student or Community Member at large
This award has been established to recognize the legacy that Michael A. Powell, Esq. continues to provide to NBGSA and students across the nation. Currently, Associate Chancellor for Diversity and Climate at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, Michael A. Powell, Esq. has served as advisor to NBGSA for over 10 years. Along with Dr. Sharon Herron, he was instrumental in the initial transition of the organization from North Carolina Central University to Howard University and has been assisting with the guidance, leadership, and outreach of NBGSA and its students on the local, regional, and national levels without sabbatical. We would like to recognize an out- standing student, faculty member, administrator, or community member at large, who exhibits the qualities of dedication, community service, and leadership, significant in the ways representative of Michael A. Powell’s continued service to the organization.
To nominate someone for the Michael A. Powell, Esq. Service Award you must:
Be a current member of the National Black Graduate Student Association; nominee does not have to be a NBGSA member.
Obtain a brief biography of nominee.
Submit a 1 – 2 page letter on the nominee’s behalf that addresses the following three questions:
- What outstanding service has the nominee made to the National Black Graduate Student Association?
- What significant contributions has the nominee made to a/your local Black Graduate Student Association chapter?
- How does the nominee contribute to increasing diversity at his/her institution and colleges and universities around the country?
